About Mela Peel Forte

When uneven colour is the first thing you notice in the mirror, picking yet another brightening product can feel like guesswork.

Mela Peel Forte is a structured, in-clinic treatment from Dermaceutic for the look of pigment spots, uneven tone and melasma in suitable skin.

Two Formulations, One Treatment

The treatment uses two products together. Activa contains salicylic, azelaic, ferulic, citric and phytic acids. Mela Peel Forte contains resorcinol, lactic, citric, kojic and phytic acids.

Together they pair exfoliation with ingredients aimed at pigment. Kojic acid works on an enzyme involved in making melanin, while the exfoliating acids help the skin's surface renew.

Pigment Spots

Aims to soften the look of pigment spots.

Uneven Tone

Works toward a more even looking complexion.

Melasma

Can be considered for melasma in suitable skin.

Two Sessions

Usually two treatments, a month apart.

Expected Results

The goal is brighter skin, softer looking pigment spots and a more even complexion.

How your skin responds depends on the type of pigmentation, your skin's reaction and your ongoing care. Melasma can come back.

Sessions, Appointment And Downtime

  • Sessions: an initial course is usually two treatments, one month apart, followed by a review.
  • Appointment: usually around 45 minutes.
  • Downtime: social downtime is generally limited, although redness, tightness, dryness and flaking can still happen.

Is It Right For You?

Every client is assessed individually and skin preparation is required before this peel. Before recommending anything, Laura looks at your concerns, current skincare, treatment history and any relevant medical information. Please let us know about:

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Current or recent isotretinoin (Roaccutane) use
  • Prescription retinoids and other acne treatments
  • Medicines that affect skin sensitivity, immunity or healing
  • Allergies or past reactions to skincare or peels
  • Cold sores, active infection, broken skin or sunburn
  • Active eczema or dermatitis
  • Poor healing, unusual scarring or pigmentation after past procedures
  • Recent laser, microneedling, waxing, peels or other skin treatments

Any of these may mean your treatment needs adjusting, postponing or a check with your doctor first.

Preparing Your Skin

  • Skin preparation is required before Mela Peel Forte. We'll assess your skin first and explain exactly which products to use or pause.
  • Please don't come in with sunburn or irritated skin.
  • If your skin changes or you start a new medicine before your appointment, let us know.

Aftercare

  • Don't pick, scrub or pull at any flaking skin.
  • Wear a broad spectrum SPF 50+ every day.
  • Keep your routine gentle and follow your personalised plan for when to bring back retinol and acids.
  • You'll get specific advice on exercise, heat, swimming and saunas while your skin recovers.

“When I assess your skin, I want to understand what is bothering you, what you have already tried and how your skin responds. From there, we can choose an appropriate treatment and a home care routine you can realistically follow. I will explain what we are targeting, what improvement we are looking for and what recovery involves.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Can it permanently remove melasma?

No. Melasma needs ongoing management and can return. Sun protection and the right maintenance skincare stay important.

Will one appointment be enough?

You may notice some change after one treatment, but we look at your progress across the recommended course. Results can't be guaranteed.

Is Mela Peel Forte the same as Cosmelan?

No. They're different professional pigmentation treatments from different brands, each with its own programme and recovery. Neither is a guaranteed permanent fix for melasma. At your consultation we'll look at whether Mela Peel Forte, or another treatment in our range, suits your skin.

When can I wear makeup?

It depends on the treatment and how your skin is healing. Follow your aftercare instructions and keep makeup off any raw or healing skin.

When can I go back to retinol and exfoliating acids?

Follow your personalised aftercare plan. Going back to them too early can irritate recovering skin.

What should I avoid while my skin is peeling?

Don't pick, scrub or pull at flaking skin. Stick to your skincare instructions and keep your skin protected from the sun.

What are the risks?

Redness, dryness, sensitivity and peeling are possible. Less commonly, pigment changes, prolonged redness, infection and scarring can occur. We'll go through the risks that apply to you before treatment.

What if my skin reacts unexpectedly?

Get in touch with the clinic if you notice increasing discomfort, significant swelling or any reaction you weren't expecting.

Are results permanent?

Not necessarily. Sun exposure, hormones, ageing and ongoing skin conditions all affect skin over time. We look at maintenance once we've seen how your skin responds.

Can I have a peel during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

We don't offer these Dermaceutic peels during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Get in touch and we can talk about alternatives.

I'm on Roaccutane. Can I book?

Please tell us about any current or recent isotretinoin use before booking. Suitability and timing depend on the peel, your skin and medical advice. Don't stop any prescribed medication without speaking to your prescriber first.
